HH50 Owner Testimonial

A long held belief in boat building is that a happy client is your best salesperson. We have been extremely fortunate to work with amazing clients across the board over the past several years, but perhaps none as excited and happy-to-share as the owner of the first HH50, Dr. Jeff Marks.

Jeff recently chimed in on an online thread comparing the HH50 to a similar market offering, the Balance 526, a boat Jeff considered seriously before ultimately deciding to move forward with HH5001. His comments are well measured and thoughtful, and sum up quite well what we feel many in the market for a yacht of this caliber will find when comparing the two options.

"I’ve spent lots of time on and sailed both the Balance 526 and HH55. We whittled it down to these two high quality performance cruising cats for our final choice. Both great designs that an experienced couple can handle and are solidly constructed with excellent fit and finish. Slightly differing design features and elements that set them apart and will appeal to different owners tastes. Although I loved sailing with the versa helm and the balances wonderful cockpit space. I also enjoyed the light and quickly reactive helm control of the HH55 on Ticket to Ride and Minnehaha all while sailing comfortably under full control reaching at 21-22 knots boat speed :). Both Balance and HH are amazing boats, and this was literally the most difficult investment and boating decision of my life. In the end we went for the HH50. We were just more excited about the HH50 design. We found it a bit sexier, updated, and the design/spaces ergonomics and potential higher performance and handling characteristics a little more to our tastes. The entire HH line is fully carbon construction and has C-shaped daggerboards providing potential additional lift. We also liked the aft owners cabin location and dual helm design. There are many other distinctions between these two great designs. Some tipped us one way... some the other. One unknown that ended up being a relief for us of note, is how trustworthy and pleasant and actually fun the factory team was to work with at HH in Xiamen, China. They worked with us patiently and with flexibility to help make this complicated semi custom boat come together in the end. They made the new design build as painless as possible, and toiled diligently to build a great boat. When some complicated aspect of a new design first build didn’t turn out as planned, they fixed the issue at hand to make sure the result was optimal at their own cost. China was also a surprise in that some of the best trips of my life were made visiting them over there during the build process. I can tell you all if I made the right decision a few months after the Palm Beach Boat Show, when I’ve had some time on the new HH50 :)."

A sincere thanks to Jeff for the kind words and for the good energy he’s brought to the table throughout the duration of the build of his boat. We look forward to getting out on the water together very soon.
